Chanel Spring 2011 Nail Polishes: Black Pearl, Pearl Drop and Peche Nacree

For some strange reason I feel the irresistible urge to own every new Chanel Nail Polish that comes out, whether I think it will suit me or not. The latest three from the Spring 2011 Collection released yesterday is the perfect demonstration of this. I knew I wanted Black Pearl, quite liked Peche Nacree and was convinced Pearl Drop would not work on my colouring, surprise surprise, my instincts were correct, when will I learn to listen to them?!!

I'll start with my favourite and possibly the most hyped of the collection, Black Pearl. I have quite a few dark, steel type shades so wasn't sure if I needed another, but I liked the idea of the green shimmer mixed into the dark grey. I was afraid I'd be let down as Paradoxal looked so great in the bottle, but a little dull on nails. With Black Pearl, the reverse is true. I think it comes to life when applied. The best description I can give is that of a dark, stormy sea.

I applied two coats fairly easily, and although the first was a touch streaky, the second evened this out and gave opaque coverage. I'm impressed with this shade and although I picked out a couple of colours from my collection, I couldn't find anything too similar. This will shortly be going straight back on my fingers.

Next up we have Peche Nacree, a light peach with a subtle shimmer. It is quite a warm shade and normally I steer clear of these, but I do like the shade so thought I'd try it. I don't think it looks too bad on my very pale skin, is wearable, but it would probably look better with a tan.

I did need to apply 3 coats of this shade and I still had visible nail line, so that might put a lot of people off. I still like it because I don't have many similar shades and it will be something different to wear in Spring/Summer, more adventurous than a traditional neutral, but still work appropriate.

Last and in this case least is Pearl Drop, a shimmery white shot through with gold. I bought this as an afterthought, and now really wish I hadn't as it was just to complete the trio. I know that whites and golds don't suit my skin tone so it was fairly obvious that a combination of the two would look equally awful on me. It does.

I needed three coats of this shade to get the level of colour that I wanted but it is still not for me. Application was fine and although the Chanel brushes a slimmer than a lot of brands, this doesn't cause me any problem. I would love to see Pearl Drop on a different skin tone as I have my doubts that it would work on anyone, or maybe I'm just cross that I didn't save my money and buy the new Chanel blusher instead! I must remember, shimmery whites do not work for me!

I hope to get time to show you some of the similar shades I have on my nails but I am running out of nail polish remover! If there are any ones in particular you want to see in more detail just let me know in the comments and I'll try and oblige.

Which is your favourite out of the three new Chanel releases? Anyone else planning on getting something from the Spring Collection?
