Monday Manicure - Chanel Steel from the Soho Collection

Sorry I've left this post a little later than usual but I got quite carried away watching the Ryder Cup, can't believe we won! Am a bit of a golf freak, you can't spend 4 years living in St Andrews, the home of golf, without it rubbing off on you.

Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Steel

Back to more important things in the form of nail varnish. More specifically, Chanel's Steel from the Limited Edition Soho Collection, only released in America. It is, as the name suggests, a steely grey colour with a very subtle silver micro shimmer shot through it.

Chanel's Strong
I have tried my best to show the micro shimmer in all the photos but it shows up a lot more in the bottle than it does when applied to the nails.

I have to say I was disappointed with this colour. I thought it looked stunning in the bottle and hoped it would be as individual as Strong, the other nail varnish released with the Soho Collection, but it just wasn't.

It is all very well having subtle micro shimmer in a colour, but for Chanel prices you should at least be able to see it with the naked eye! The type of effect the colour gives is nothing like that which you can see in the bottle. For a limited edition colour, I felt this should be more interesting, something unique.

I felt very foolish having gone to a lot of trouble to get the shade from America when I looked through my other polishes and found I pretty much had a reasonable dupe of this colour already. Although, this is good news for all those of you that do like the colour but couldn't get hold of it. The dupe is Leighton Denny's Steel Appeal which I think is from his Elemental collection.

The slight differences between the two shades are that the Leighton Denny is a fraction lighter, looks much worse when only one coat is applied (but fine after two) and the silver shimmer is more noticeable. Having applied one colour to each hand, I actually prefer the cheaper Leighton Denny shade.

You can see from the pictures that the shades are very similar. This deep charcoal grey is a nice shade for winter and I do like it, I just expected something more from Chanel, that certain je ne sais quoi.

Finally, a big thank you to Modesty Brown today for posting this afternoon that the MAC Venomous Villains Collection was online. I didn't think it would be available until Tuesday at the earliest (Thursday at counters) so having seen her post I was able to quickly secure all the items I wanted. Saves a 9am trip to my nearest counter on Thursday!
