Q&A: DIY manicures or professional?

This may sound like a silly question as I suppose if money were no object, then the majority would prefer to have a professional do their nails.

When money is tight for everyone though, I cannot see the point in paying for a manicure when there are so many great products available that allow you to get a salon finish at home. That way, you have more money to spend on fab colours!

I have only paid for a manicure once, and I was really disappointed with it. I wanted a traditional French for a university ball and the white tips were smudged. The nail technician carried on as if she hadn't noticed and in the end I had to insist that she do 2 of the nails again. I was left feeling awkward that I had to point out her mistake and annoyed at having spent a considerable amount when I could have done it better myself at home.

I'm sure that there are some wonderful manicurists out there who do a great job, but for me, I don't have the funds to get my nails done professionally, the rate I change my nail colour it would cost a fortune!

My secret to getting the professional look at home is Leighton Denny Corrector Liquid. It comes with a brush so that you can tidy up any mistakes or use it to create an easy French manicure. For a cheaper alternative, you could probably use a fine paintbrush dipped in some polish remover.

So do you pay to get your nails done or take the DIY approach? Do you have any hints and tips for the perfect manicure?
